Yolotl Ballet Folkorico with gratitude submits this proposal to Alliance for California Traditional Art (ACTA) for support and funding to continue with our thirty- seven (37) year history of performing Mexican ballet based in Sonoma County, CA. The proposal is a collaboration between Yototl Ballet Folkorico , Yolanda Giron, Founder & Director, based in Healdsburg, and Latinos Unidos del Condado de Sonoma, a community based non-profit organization founded on December 12th 1966. The history and objective of both organizations is to “promote and share” the value of Mexico’s rich culture and arts in Healdsburg and throughout Sonoma County.

The name of Ballet “Yolotl” comes from the Aztec language and culture whose meaning translates to “From the Heart”. For over thirty-seven (37) years Yolanda Giron, has been volunteering providing leadership and instruction to children and adults in Sonoma County who desire to learn and be part of this cultural learning experience. Yolotl Ballet is open to all age groups. At present the youngest member of the ballet is 5 years old and the eldest is 62. The ballet folkorico currently has 50 plus participants.

We firmly believe and understand there are other significant family values that ballet folkorico provides such as a family learning experience and closer bonding between parents and children.
