Despite the economic downturn and cuts to the Arts, ACTA has continued its commitment to supporting individual artists through the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program in which 15-20 master artist—apprentice pairs receive $2500 contracts supporting an intensive learning cycle. The Traditional Arts Development program gives direct support up to $1500 to organizations and individual artists to reach a new level of artistic or organizational development.

ACTA serves as a clearinghouse of information to help connect and grow the folk & traditional arts field by offering referrals, maintaining a statewide database, and disseminating relevant information through the New Moon and the ACTA website. Advocacy leadership is a vital role for ACTA in voicing the needs and opportunities of the field to federal, state, and private entities.

ACTA engages in public programs and special initiatives to further community-based expressions of traditional culture—from organizing mariachi instructional workshops to presenting and hosting international performing arts residencies and conducting discovery research to identify and record folk traditions around the state.
