Ron Chew, Organizational Mentor
The Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) received $6,500 for an organizational mentorship with Ron Chew, Executive Director of the Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle. Mr. Chew will assist Anne Huang, Executive Director of the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, in planning for organizational growth in the areas of programming, collaborations, audience development, and fundraising. Based on Ron Chew’s recommendations, OACC will develop an outline for a comprehensive three to five year strategic plan.
The OACC has been working to expand cultural programming since it recently re-established an independent operational infrastructure. It has re-instituted traditional arts classes such as traditional Chinese folk dance and Asian calligraphy to serve the local community. Working with collaborative partnerships it has also produced large scale events such as the Lunar New Year Festival and Asian Pacific American Festival. This mentorship will facilitate its planning of classes, events, and exhibits in order to better serve the community.
