OKINAWAN DANCE
NORIYOSHI ARAKAKI and YUKA ARAKAKI

After participating in ACTA’s Apprenticeship Program in 1999 for Traditional Okinawan Dance, Noriyoshi and Yuka Arakaki are returning to the program to continue Yuka’s preparation for her second of three official dance tests in Okinawa. Grand Master Noho Miyagi, a National Human Treasure in Japan, appointed Noriyoshi Arakaki to teach his school of Okinawan dance in the San Francisco Bay Area. Yuka Arakaki, Noriyoshi’s most promising pupil, shares her father’s dreams of introducing their art form to the Bay Area community. When Yuka passes her dance tests in Okinawa she will become an instructor and continue her father’s work of performing and teaching with Miyagi Hon Ryu Ohtori No Kai USA, Grand Master Noho Miyagi’s school in California.
