Voice of Roma—Sebastopol

See the Voice of Roma website

Voice of Roma (VOR), a California non profit organization, began its work in 1996 with the purpose of organizing and promoting educational, cultural, artistic and charitable projects for and about Roma (Gypsies), the largest minority group in Europe and a significant presence in the U.S.

A contract from the Traditional Arts Development Program will hire web consultant Joe Benham to renovate the website as well as provide training to VOR staff in the maintenance and updating of the website. The new site will include video and music streaming, updated volunteer opportunities with VOR, and event advertising among other things. The website will serve as the voice of the organization and will facilitate the public's awareness of and appreciation for Roma and its traditional folk culture.

Since its inception, Voice of Roma has initiated cultural exchange events, education forums and media projects to share Romani music, dance, culture and folk art. The biggest of these events is the Annual Herdeljezi Festival. The festival is a two day event celebrating the traditional arts of Roma and coincides with the traditional Romani celebration of the beginning of the spring-summer outdoor season.
