The Ink People Center for the Arts—Eureka

Funds from ACTA 's Traditional Arts Development Program will be used to hire folklife consultant Andrea Graham who will assist the Ink People in conducting fieldwork and constructing an inventory of Humboldt County folk artists, their assets and needs. Ms. Graham of Idaho has consulted for the Western Folklife Center in Elko Nevada, Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the American West Heritage Center, among others. Ms. Graham's consultancy for the Ink People will ultimately result in the preservation of artistic works and cultural traditions in the region and will include a searchable database available from the Ink People's website. The Ink People will be partnering with the Humboldt Arts Council and Humboldt Folklife Society in planning for ways to effectively gather and employ the data.

The Ink People, founded in 1979, is a community-based arts and cultural organization with over 700 members, providing programs and services to create vibrant and visionary tools for community cultural development, and to weave the arts into the fabric of the community. Located in the old Winship School in Eureka, CA, the facility provides space for the galleries, shared artist studios, a cyber-arts center with free public Internet access, administrative offices, and a cultural library.
