Ektaa Center—IrvineSupport from ACTA 's Traditional Arts Development Program will facilitate consultant Dr. Priya Srinivasan in organizing the first Ektaa Festival – Celebrating the Arts of India. The event will be a two-day festival featuring diverse traditional art forms of India and will be held in Irvine, California in October 2004. The Ektaa Center, formerly the Arpana Foundation, is dedicated to building stronger communities in Southern California using diverse mediums such as dance, music or theater. The combined expertise of the Ektaa Center in performance programming and Dr. Srinivasan in educational programming will create a festival that will increase awareness and understanding and provide an opportunity to educate and bring in new audiences and create cross-cultural impact. Ektaa which means “openness"' in Sanskrit will use the weekend festival to present a unified image of the arts and cultures of India and feature the major music and dance forms: North and South Indian Classical music, Bharata Natyam, Kathak, Odissi and other folk traditions.
