Arpana Dance Company—IrvineThrough the Traditional Arts Development Program, the Arpana Dance Company will contract consultant Usha Sampath to develop a curriculum for presenting traditional Indian music and culture in the public school system. Usha Sampath has been a teacher and educator for over 20 years and has experience with the traditions that will be presented. The Arpana Dance Company, based in southern California, has been a touring and performing ensemble of traditional Indian dance for over 15 years. Led by Ramya Harishankar, the company has toured major cities of California, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kansas, Texas, and Washington D.C. The company has adapted some parts of the art form for educational settings, but now looks to develop an educational cultural presentation that is designed to use in the public school system.
