Advocates for Indigenous California Language SurvivalThe Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival have been working with California Indians to reverse language loss within their communities. Native American languages, which have no writing system and are transmitted orally, convey stories, traditional lore, ceremonial songs and oratory, and other cultural information crucial to understanding the history and culture of the indigenous communities. In the continuing efforts to halt the loss of these languages, the Advocates will contract the services of the California Foreign Language Program to assist in developing advanced teacher training programs and language teaching resource materials. |
