Chamoru dance

Kutturan Chamoru Performers on stageKutturan Chamoru Performers represent the indigenous Pacific Islanders of the Northern Marianas Islands in Micronesia.  KCP believes in the preservation of the Chamoru culture and strives to pass on the stories, legends, and dances of their Chamoru ancestors to the present and coming generations.  Under the direction of Heidi Chargualaf-Quenga, KCP is comprised of 60-70 community volunteers of Chamoru and non-Chamoru decent, based in Long Beach.  The ages of our performers range from 4-60+. The group has been promoting the Chamoru culture since its inception in 1993.

In 2009, KCP participated in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program, receiving support to travel to Guam to attend the world’s only Chamorro dance competition.  At the competition, KCP’s director was afforded the rare opportunity to see dance delegations from the Marianas Islands — Guam, Saipan, and Tinian — perform in their native country.
