Hālau o Keikiali’i Hawaiian Cultural Center

Hawaiian arts & culture

Based in South San Francisco, Hālau o Keikiali’i Hawaiian Cultural Center’s mission is to educate the general public about the Hawaiian people, the traditional customs, values and protocols.  Besides having regularly scheduled classes, Hālau o Keikiali’i Hawaiian Cultural Center strives to help perpetuate the rich culture of the Hawaiian people through stage productions held for the general public throughout the year, including educational workshops, performances and other cultural events.

In 2011, through participation in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program, Hālau o Keikiali’i Hawaiian Cultural Center worked with JC Engineering to initiate design plans and engineering processes for necessary updates to the Center’s building.

In 2007, as participants in ACTA’s Traditional Arts Development Program, the dancers of Hālau o Keikiali’i were mentored by master artist Hokulani Holt-Padilla in the Hula Pahu, a rare form of sacred dance that has cultural and historical significance.
