Ennis Peck

Mountain Maidu basketry

Ennis Peck, a member of the Mountain Maidu of modern-day Plumas County, has been weaving baskets for over thirty years.  He learned as a child from his grandmother, Nellie Peck, and his aunt, the renowned weaver and elder Lily Baker.

Ennis was a master artist in ACTA's Apprenticeship Program in 2011, with apprentice William Harrison.  Their apprenticeship built upon William’s knowledge of traditional Maidu regalia, singing, and other ceremonial practice.  Their work together focused on the harvesting and preparation of raw materials and the construction of a large close-weaved storage basket.
