| The fireplace mantel of Mrs. Manuela Pérez’s small cottage in Boyle Heights is draped with garlands and angel hair to celebrate the birth of the Niño Dios, who lies under the triangular portal representing the stable where He was born. La Virgen de San Juan de los Lagos, Mrs. Pérez’s patron saint, usually graces the mantel by herself, but has been set to the side for the duration of the Christmas season.
