Special Project Coordinator
Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project
Oakland Asian Cultural Center
The Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) has launched an inter-generational
oral history project, the Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project. Ten
youth will interview 10 elders from Oakland Chinatown to collect their
stories, memorabilia, and photographs.
OACC is seeking a Special Project Coordinator to:
- Help research the history of Oakland Chinatown
- Recruit high school and college students to serve as youth interviewers
- Manage and coordinate the youth interviewers
- Assist with the production of the project and other tasks as assigned
Time Commitment: Eight hours a week, flexible schedule; April 15 – September
30, 2007, with the possibility of an extension.

Call for Oakland High School and College Students
Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project
Oakland Asian Cultural Center
The Oakland Asian Cultural Center is embarking on its Oakland Chinatown
Oral History Project, and are in need of 5 high school students to work
with 5 college students in interviewing elderly Oakland Chinatown residents
in gathering history and information.
Our goal is to preserve and maintain the important history of Oakland
Chinatown which we hope to increase awareness and build relationships
between different generations.
It is an on going commitment and 15-20 hours all together, spanning
one month to throughout the year (depending on your availability). By
participating in this project, it will provide valuable experience and
will benefit the community by preserving its history, before it is lost
forever. Participating in this project may also qualify you for
extra credit or volunteer hours.

Western States Folklore Society Annual Conference
April 20-21, 2007

The theme for this year’s conference is “Borders and Boundaries” and
we encourage participants to explore ways that folk traditions serve
as markers and makers of distance and distinction. Registration
begins on Thursday, April 19. An opening event will take place
that evening. Papers will be presented on Friday, April 20, and
Saturday, April 21.
Special conference events include:
- Pre-conference party, Thursday night, beginning at 6:30 pm, at Kaufman
Hall on the UCLA campus. (This is a free event, but you must
let us know if you plan to attend.)
- Archer Taylor Memorial Lecture, Friday night, by John Lindow, University
of California, Berkeley.

State of the Arts: Leadership in Education Conference

Participants can hear about current state and national research in arts
education; participate in engaging sessions on a variety of topics related

wide and county wide arts plan; learn how county superintendents are

Online Training Course to Master Proposal Writing
The Foundation Center is hosting an online training course, titled Proposal
Writing: The Statement of Need, to help grantseekers develop skills in
constructing a compelling statement of need. The course includes interactive
exercises and assignments, case studies, a final exam, and a printable
certificate of completion. Lessons can be taken at any pace, and can
