2nd Sundays Call for Proposals

Deadline: November 1, 2006

Dancers’ Group and CounterPULSE have teamed up to introduce "2nd Sundays", a series of free monthly salons showcasing works in progress, followed by dialogue between artists and audience.  Dancers’ Group and CounterPULSE see this as an opportunity to advance Bay Area discussion of the craft of performance.

Performances take place at CounterPULSE on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m.  During the first half of the program, 2-4 performers present roughly 10 minutes of work.  The second half of the program consists of a lively and in-depth conversation between the presenters, the artists, and the audience about the work.  This program is an ideal opportunity for artists to gain useful feedback about works-in-progress, or to re-visit and delve deeper into completed work.

Artists/companies have the opportunity to perform one piece of up to 10 minutes in length on one of the three scheduled 2nd Sundays programs.  Each program is presented in a bare studio setting. The focus is on the work, not on theatrical presentation (i.e.no tech available).  Artists are responsible for attending one initial orientation meeting, providing promotional images, and assisting in spreading the word about the event. A small honorarium of $100 is available to each group.

To apply send the following information (in one page or less) to kegan@dancersgroup.org by November 1st:

  1. Your name, address, email and phone number.
  2. A short bio of yourself, your company, and key collaborators.
  3. A description of the proposed piece.  Explain whether it is a full-length piece or an excerpt of a longer work.  (Keep in mind that they are looking for roughly 10 minutes of performance).  Explain whether it is a work-in-progress or a finished piece.  Finally, if it¹s a work-in-progress, list any future scheduled performance dates.
  4. A discussion of what interests you about 2nd Sundays.  Why would you like to present your work in this environment?  What do you hope to get out of the discussion?  How will this opportunity further your artistic growth?
  5. List which of the following Sundays (January 14, February 11, March 11) you are available to perform. You can list multiple dates.
