Harris, a nationally known planning expert dedicated to helping arts managers realize their visions for their organizations, will be back in Los Angeles on February 6 - 7. Mr. Harris gained his financial skills during more than twenty years with J.P. Morgan & Company, in both New York and London. He is also author of a report to The James Irvine Foundation titled "Development of Cultural Facilities in Los Angeles." Mr. Harris' two-day seminar will cover:
Participants will also learn how to employ empirical data from dozens of capital campaigns to help their own organizations ensure that their campaigns are realistically structured. This seminar is perfect for senior managers and executives, Board of Directors, and foundations that fund arts facilities with budgets of $500,000 - $5 million. Organizations enrolled in the two-day program should plan for at least two decision makers such as an Executive Director and at least one member of their Board of Directors to attend both days of the seminar. Thanks to generous support from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, the Center for Cultural Innovation is able to offer Mr. Harris' seminar at a greatly reduced fee. The cost for the two-day seminar is $140 and includes all handouts, a Brown Bag Lunch and snacks for each day. The San Francisco Foundation Multicultural Fellowship ProgramDeadline: February 15, 2006 The San Francisco Foundation has begun the recruitment of the 2006-2008 multicultural fellows. This year they will be recruiting three fellows in the areas of Arts and Culture, Education and Social Justice. Designed as a two-year full-time program, the Multicultural Fellowship assists in the development of professionals in the nonprofit and public sectors. The goals of the Multicultural Fellowship Program are to provide professionals of color, early in their career, with challenging work experiences and opportunities in the areas of grantmaking and community building in the Bay Area. Additionally, the program aims to enhance the fellows’ professional development as future foundation, nonprofit, or public service leaders. Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the ArtsDate: February 21, 2006 In this workshop, the Foundation Center shows individuals involved in the arts how to identify funders in the arts, consider the option of fiscal sponsorship, and offer tips on how to create a step-by-step plan to find funding for your needs as an individual grantseeker. Call for Nominations – The San Francisco Foundation Community Leadership AwardsDeadline: March 1, 2006 The San Francisco Foundation Community Leadership Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose leadership has made a significant impact in their particular Bay Area communities. This work may confront social or health problems, address environmental concerns, or promote arts and humanities. One of the four awards distinguishes an under-recognized, mature artist who has made a significant and ongoing contribution in the Bay Area. Each year their peers nominate outstanding individuals and groups, and a panel of Bay Area community leaders selects the Award winners. Individuals receive $10,000 awards and organizations are awarded $20,000. Individuals and nonprofit organizations in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties are eligible. Call for Nominations - 2006 Community Spirit AwardsDeadline: April 15, 2006 First Peoples Fund, a national nonprofit organization invites nominations for an artist from your American Indian community for their eighth annual Community Spirit Award, recognizing individuals who have made substantial contributions to their communities. Following a rigorous selection process, four individuals will be honored with a $5,000 fellowship and will be recognized at a ceremony in Rapid City, S.D. in December 2006. Community Spirit is an expression that speaks of the unselfish generosity and reciprocated love these artists have for their Indian community. The same spirit that guides artists’ work also drives them to do service in their communities. This process of bringing spirit back to the community is part of a sacred honor system that First Peoples Fund works to strengthen through recognition of these artists. Community Spirit also describes the teaching of gifts that promote and sustain indigenous cultures. Recipients of this award must demonstrate these acts of Community Spirit through their art form. Nominated artists must be: practicing artists of demonstrated maturity in their field, continually practicing artists for a minimum of 10 years, and be a documented affiliate of a United States tribe. In addition to Visual Arts, First Peoples Fund has expanded it's recognition of practicing artists to include contemporary and traditional forms of Performing Arts and Literary Arts. Postcard must include complete addresses of both nominee and nominator and must be postmarked by April 15, 2006 or you may nominate your candidate online at the First Peoples Fund website.
