ADVOCACYAction Alert - May 27, 2004Both the Senate Budget Subcommittee #4 and the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #4 approved the Governor’s recommended state funding level of $1.075 million for the California Arts Council (CAC). However, the Assembly went one step further last week, and through Assembly Member Sarah Reyes (Fresno), recommended that the CAC budget be increased to $10 million. We need to tell Sarah thank you, and to also urge others to support the increase. Next, the joint budget conference committee will be selected and will begin meeting to settle differences between the Assembly Budget sub-committee recommendation ($11.075 M) and the Senate's budget committee recommendation ($1.075 Million). Though the conference committee has not yet been selected, we need to mobilize the arts and culture community to begin writing letters now! The Legislature needs to hear from all of you about why this funding is critical to the Arts, to you, and to your community. Let the Legislature and the Governor know that supporters of the Arts are in every community across this state. Remember, strength in numbers. Let them know you care and support the Arts. Mail, fax or e-mail. Write your Legislator and the Governor urging them to support the CAC budget augmentation of $10 million. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Please make sure to send ACTA a copy of your letter (fax:559-237-9814 or mail to 1245 Van Ness, Fresno, CA 93721) You can find your legislator by visiting the California Legislative Website.
